Drilling Simulations

Fedem Technology can simulate the drilling process in order to describe the dynamic behavior of the drill string, with the objective of increasing the length (step-out) of horizontal wells.

The FEDEM software is well suited for dynamic analysis of slender structures, and is the preferred numerical tool for performing dynamic drilling simulations.

The simulation is carried out in the time domain, using finite-element formulation. The stiffness matrix is updated for every time step, allowing for rotation and large displacements of the drill string.

Both the well formation and casing are represented in the model, and contact with the drill pipe is evaluated at the locations of each
connector.
